DUNKLEY, Karen Holst

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Karen Dunkley (nee Jensen) at the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital surrounded by family on Friday December 28, 2018.

Wife to the love of her life Patrick Dunkley. Beloved mother of Elisabeth Jorgensen, Hanne Sorensen (deceased), Jessie Mayhew, Ejna Best (Raymond), Johnny Sorensen (Heather) and her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She filled her life with horses and dogs. First showing horses and then trail riding with husband Pat all over Ontario. Throughout her life she raised purebred collies and german shepherds. She trained dogs to the Canadian Kennel Club standard and created many canine drill teams. Always the animal lover.

As requested by Karen there will be no service at this time. A family gathering in celebration of her life will take place in the spring.

Memorial donations to the Loyalist Humane Society would be appreciated by her family.

Arrangements entrusted to the Hicks Funeral Home, 2 Centre Street, Picton.

I was sorry to learn of Karen's passing. I remember her from her early days with horses at the Picton fairgrounds barns. Her animals always brought her great pleasure. Have not seen her in many years but have often thought of the good times we had with our horses at the fairgrounds. I am sorry for your loss.

So very shortly after our chat about Karen, Ray...

Wishing Ejna, Pat and the rest of the family the very best memories.

I was telling our dog-passionate Foundation staff, Briar, today about Karen "training Lynn" to be a dog manager in Megan's obedience class. I also told her about me going after that trained Megan out into East Lake after she took off "celebrating after graduation". That water was cold! Briar found it hard to believe we were ever dog owners! But as I reflect, Karen gave us a relationship with that dog that was not to be missed - nor replaced it seems. I have the fondest memories around that experience - and today Karen made me smile.
hugs, Monica
